Creating sites as a set of static HTML pages makes them hard for clients to update, often requires information to be changed in multiple places, and makes features such as RSS feeds impossible. The solution is to build the site around a database, but as a designer, you don’t want to deal with back-end technology.

Christopher Haupt, CTO of Webvanta, will explain the benefits of database-driven sites and show how the Webvanta hosted service makes this technology easily usable by designers without depending on a programmer. The session will conclude with an open discussion about the challenges web designers face and the various products and technologies that are available to help them.
